After receiving its royal charter on July 12, 1886, the Royal Niger Company employed a dedicated fleet of steamers to secure landing points for commodities such as palm oil. These vessels were essential for the movement of the company constabulary and medical officers between riverine stations, including Lokoja, Asaba, and Akassa, as described by Wikipedia and Grokipedia.
