Isuochi, the community associated with this portrait, is located in the modern-day Umuneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. During the period this photograph was taken, the region fell within the Bende and Owerri Provinces, where Jones served as a colonial Administrative Officer. Other visual documentation from the Isuochi series includes images of the Mmau masquerade in Amuda village.
