Igbo market literature

The compilation Igbo market literature is associated with Onitsha market literature, which functioned as a cradle for African pre-independence written literature in English (Onitsha market literature in language and literary development of...). This genre, consisting of inexpensive short plays, stories, and novellas, was sold in local markets within Igboland (Igbo Market Literature – AHA). Black Academy Press notes that Mezu's collection includes titles such as Veronica My daughter, Forget Me Not, The Important Book for Nigerian Bachelors, The Gentle Giant Alakuku, What is Life, Trust Nobody, Life is the Prison Yark, How To Start Life and End it Well, How to Marry a Good Girl, Light to Success, and The Sweetness and Kingdom of Love.

Sebastian Okechukwu Mezu was born on April 30, 1941, in Ezeogba, Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State (Sebastian Okechukwu Mezu - Wikipedia). He is a scholar, diplomat, and author known for his contributions to Pan-Africanism and Nigerian letters. His other publications include the novel Behind the Rising Sun, which addresses the Biafran war, the poetry collection The Tropical Dawn, and various editorial projects such as Modern Black Literature and studies on the works of Léopold Sédar Senghor.
