In 1969, the Greater Kano Planning Authority was renamed the Metropolitan Kano Planning and Development Board, and it subsequently became the Kano State Urban Development Board (KSUDB) in 1976, as documented in Understanding the Challenges of 21st Century Urbanization in Northern Nigeria’s Largest City, Kano.

The Authority oversaw the 1963 preparation of the report Metropolitan Kano by B. A. W. Trevallion, and research on the city's geographic change conducted between 1961 and 1963 by advisors attached to the Authority was published in the Annals of the Association of American Geographers.
