The Edo State Police Command said it had arrested a 57-year-old man, Edokpa Patrick, over possession of arms and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested at Ugomonson community with a single barrel gun and 172 live cartridges.

The command spokesperson, Moses Yamu, said the police arrested the suspect while acting on intelligence.

He said, “The suspect was arrested in possession of one unlicensed single barrel gun with 172 live cartridges.

“During interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a member of vigilante but he is into sales of live cartridges.”

Yamu said the suspect confessed that his wife, Blessing Edokpa, who is currently at large, was the one selling the cartridges and that she usually gets supplies from Onitsha in Anambra State.

He said the suspect would be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed.

He, however, calls on the general public to report suspicious persons or activities around them as the police strive to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
