Nigeria Correctional Service in Abia begs Gov Otti for vehicles, lighting facilities
The new Controller of Nigeria Correctional Service in Abia State, Mr Henry Onyenze has appealed to the State government to provide operational vehicles, palliatives and building of court cells.
The new Controller made the appeal at Government House Umuahia when he paid a courtesy call to the Governor.
He also solicited the installation of solar lights in custodial facilities in the state to improve lighting as well as ensure the safety of inmates and staff of the Service.
Onyenze thanked Governor Alex Otti for facilitating resources and programs which he said, have been enabling the Nigeria Correctional Service to provide safe, secure and humane custody for prison inmates in Abia State.
Receiving the new Controller at Government House, Governor Otti who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba appreciated the important roles the Nigeria Correctional Service play in character reformation and reintegration of the citizens.
He promised to support the new Controller and his personnel to succeed in their duties and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the state.
Also speaking, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechuckwu Uwanna who was represented by Mrs Chibuzor Ehiemere, Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice said his office would like to receive the list for amnesty.
The Attorney General stressed that receiving the list would enable the committee on the prerogative of mercy look into it, pointing out that it would help in decongesting Correctional facilities.
According to Uwanna, congestion is one of the major challenges confronting the justice system.
