Herbert M. Cole

Herbert M. Cole is an American art historian and Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A leading authority on African art, his research on the Igbo is particularly noted for his work on Mbari ceremonial houses and the spiritual duality of Chi and Eke. His book MBARI: Art and Life among the Owerri Igbo (1982) is a foundational study of Igbo spiritual and artistic expression.
