The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) has staged a peaceful protest the alleged victimisation of its members across various public universities in the country.
Addressing pressmen after the protest, ASUU-FUK chairperson, Dr Shehu El-Rasheed, said the union staged the protest in compliance with the resolution of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union held at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state.
He decried that the union members are undergoing different forms of victimisation that includes illegal termination of appointments, denial of promotions and withholding of salaries.
Specifically, our members at the Lagos State University (LASU), Kogi State University (KSU) Ayingba; Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki; Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu University (OOU) and Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).
Our colleagues in these universities are undergoing different forms of victimisation such as illegal termination of appointments, denial of promotions, withholding of salaries, he said.
Dr El-Rasheed stated that some of the cases are before courts, but alleged unnecessary delays in passage of judgement by the judges handling the cases.
According to him, the affected staffs are facing untold hardship under the current economic hardship. We hold the belief that justice delayed is justice denied.
