Innoson unveils first locally produced electric vehicle
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) has introduced its first-ever locally produced electric vehicle (EV).
This milestone was announced by Cornel Osigwe, the companys Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, in a Facebook post.
Osigwe stated that the electric vehicle was manufactured at IVMs production plant in Nnewi, Anambra State.
“I just test-drove the first Innoson electric vehicle produced in Nnewi. We are just starting,” Osigwe said, signalling the company’s venture into the electric vehicle market.
While this marks IVM’s inaugural production of an electric vehicle, no information has yet been provided regarding the pricing, the number of units produced, or when the EV will be commercially available.
Electric vehicles are seen as a vital technology for reducing carbon emissions in road transport, which accounts for over 15% of global energy-related emissions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
