Federal Polytechnic Nekede Appoints 9th Substantive Rector

Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri has a new substantive Rector, Dr. Basillia Igbokwe, who was recently inaugurated in the office.

In her inaugural address, Dr. Igbokwe expressed her deepest gratitude to the staff, students, and entire polytechnic community, the leadership of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the Federal Ministry of Education for their overwhelming support.

She assured the academic and non-academic staff, labour leaders, student union government, and the entire polytechnic community that she would work tirelessly to foster a harmonious working relationship and create an environment conducive for academic excellence.

Dr. Igbokwe reiterated her commitment to pursuing the vision of the institution’s founding fathers, but emphasized that it would require unity of purpose and the support of all stakeholders.

In her agenda for transformation, she prioritized staff welfare, fighting malpractices, extortion, lateness to duty, absenteeism, cultism, indecent dressing, and other vices on campus. She also vowed to restore environmental cleanliness, implement an open-door policy, promote ICT, and consolidate the Smart Campus Initiative.

She listed other key objectives to include improving the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue, funding, reviving tissue and table water production factories, fishery and poultry, linking the institution to the national grid for improved power supply, and embarking on corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The Chairman of the 15th Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Henry Ikoro, expressed his delight at the successful inauguration, attributing it to divine making. He also expressed optimism that the team would move the institution to new heights.

Imo State Deputy Governor, Chinyere Ekomaru, who represented Governor Hope Uzodinma, congratulated Dr. Igbokwe and urged her to be firm in pursuit of programmes that would transform the institution into a premier polytechnic in Nigeria.

Solidarity messages poured in from various unions in the institution, including the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), students union, and departmental heads, all of whom pledged their support to the new Rector, urging her to prioritize the welfare of staff and students.
