Awka Businessman Demands N20m Compensation Over Unlawful Arrest And Detainton

An Awka based businessman Mr Tochukwu Nwokoye has filed a suite at the Awka High Court demanding the sum of N20 million as compensation from Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Ifeanyi Iburu for unlawful detention at the Police Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in Oyi local government area of Anambra state.

Nwokoye in Suit No A/MISC .392 / 2024 dated September 10th 2024 sort for the following reliefs;

“A declaration hat the arrest of the applicant by the Respondent at Kamali Phase 111 behind Dubai Estate, Awka on the 4th day of September, 2024 by 10 am is unlawful and a clear violation of the Applicant’s Fundamental Rights to personal liberty”

“A declaration that the detention of the Applicant by the Respondent inside the Cell of the Police Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on the 4th day of September 2024 and between the house of 10 am and 10 pm is unlawful and a clear breach of the Applicant’s right to personal liberty ”

“Twenty Million Naira compensation to the Applicant against the Respondent for the unlawful arrest and detention of the applicant at the Cell of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on the 4th of September 2024”

He also prayed for an Order of perpetual injunction restraining the Respondent from further arresting and detaining the Applicant as well as an Order for the Respondent to render a public apology to the Applicant for his unlawful arrest and detention on the 4th of September 2024 .
