G.T. Basden

George Thomas Basden (1873-1944) was an Anglican missionary and Archdeacon of the Niger from 1925 to 1935. Spending over 30 years in Nigeria, he documented Igbo customs and beliefs in works like Among the Ibos of Nigeria (1921) and Niger Ibos (1938). His writings combine his missionary experiences with a deep anthropological interest in Igbo social structures and traditional order.
